What is CrossFit and how long has it been around?

Greg Glassman, a former gymnast, founded CrossFit Inc. in 2000. In his years coaching elite athletes, Coach Glassman found that the best way to achieve optimal fitness was not through specialization but rather through constantly varied, functional movement, performed at high intensity. In CrossFit it means combining elements of Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, sprinting, rowing and core conditioning to improve overall flexibility, strength, speed, endurance and agility.

At CrossFit Orrville we are primarily focused on having fun,safety and proper form in all aspects of our classes! What each class brings is going to help you get in shape for whatever life throws at you. When you commit to CrossFit Orrville you are going to see changes physically, mentally, socially, and psychologically. You will leave each class feeling accomplished, ready to come back the next day, and you won’t need more than 60 minutes each day. You do not need to be “in shape” to try CrossFit, everything done in our classes can be scaled and/or modified for different fitness levels.

Each CrossFit Orrville class involves the following components: Warm-up varies each day and depends on the trainer, each warm-up is designed to get your body ready for what the workout is each day.

The strength portion of class is designed to help our members gain overall strength. When a skill is involved, the coaches work with members to accomplish the skill or work through progression to practice. Skills involve muscle ups, handstands, or double unders.

  • WOD- or "workout of the day" is our version of cardiovascular training or metabolic conditioning. This is where the intensity comes in, and we get your heart rate up.
  • Cool-down and stretching with the coach, stretching is very undervalued part of fitness. The more flexible you are, the better you can perform in the gym and in life!
  • Open gyms are also available most days of the week and can be used however you like.
